About the Orchestra

The Zala county Youth Wind Orchestra of Lake Balaton was established in 1994 in the town of Vonyarcvashegy (Zala county, Hungary). The members of the orchestra are the present and past pupils of the Festetics György Music School. The number of musicians in the band is between 45-50. The orchestra has received an International Golden Diploma three times, also a Niveau Prize and a Zala county Merit title.
For twenty years, the founder of the orchestra was the Public foundation for the Zala county Youth Wind Orchestra of Lake Balaton. Since 2014, the founder is the Blue Balaton Wind Association. The main sponsors of the orchestra are the municipality of Vonyarcvashegy and the municipality of Balatongyörök.
To the present day, the orchestra has issued six compact discs, has performed around two thousand concerts and has toured in Europe on seventy occasions. From the beginning, the orchestra has had 350 members. In 2024, the orchestra had received a golden (best) rating in the „Classical music” as well as in the „Entertainment” category from the Hungarian Wind Music Association. This is when it gained a new name: the Zala county Concert Wind Orchestra of Lake Balaton.
Replacement of its members comes from the so-called „Minor band” consisting of around 30 children attending the Festetics Music School.

The artistic manager of the orchestra is Tamás Kiss, who is the founding and present conductor of the Zala county Youth Wind Orchestra of Lake Balaton.
